Schneider Electric ESS Receives Awards for Top Product and Top Project of 2019

Schneider Electric’s Energy & Sustainability Services (ESS) announced today that it has received a double honor from Business Sector Media, publisher of Environmental Leader and Energy Manager Today, under the company’s 2019 awards program. The company announced this week that ESS has received both the Top Product of 2019 award for its renewable energy-focused NEO Network™ and Top Project of 2019 award for its Advanced Visualization Hack Challenge done in collaboration with client, Procter & Gamble.

Business Sector Media’s annual award program is in its seventh year and recognizes the most innovative and successful commercial and industrial products and projects in the energy and environment space.

“Our customers face increasing complexity in energy and sustainability, driven by systemic transformation in the way we use resources,” said Steve Wilhite, Senior Vice President for Schneider Electric ESS. “These new challenges require innovative solutions like NEO Network and Advanced Visualization, and it is a terrific honor for ESS to be recognized in this way—not once but twice.”

More about the Advanced Visualization Hack Challenge: Data analysis and water risk visualization tools for Procter & Gamble

Procter & Gamble (P&G) has a global manufacturing footprint that spans around 40 countries and touches nearly five billion consumers. P&G’s new sustainability goals for the decade ahead, Ambition2030, include cutting manufacturing emissions in half, purchasing 100% renewable electricity, delivering a 35% increase in water efficiency and a commitment to send zero manufacturing waste to landfill.

To help deliver these targets, P&G manages water, waste, energy, and emissions data streams from 150 sites, accounting for more than 30,000 data points within ESS’ energy and sustainability enterprise software, EcoStruxure™ Resource Advisor.

Large data sets are only beneficial if they can be used to drive action. ESS approached P&G with a ‘Hack Challenge’ – putting teams head to head using Resource Advisor’s Advanced Visualization tools to try and tackle two real world challenges:

  1. Analyzing data accuracy in a highly variable data set and
  2. Helping business leaders better visualize emerging trends in water scarcity.

The project was a competition that pulled together diverse resources from across ESS that normally do not work together or with P&G. This innovative approach allowed the ESS team to broaden data visualization skills internally, while providing P&G access to fresh ideas for data management and utilization.

“We’re just starting to scratch the surface of using advanced visualization tools to help us identify and solve complex sustainability problems,” said James McCall, Global Product Supply Sustainability Leader for P&G.

“Using a hack-a-thon approach exceeded our expectations, rapidly creating real-world, visual data analysis tools that we could immediately put into action, helping us reduce our global manufacturing footprint, and ultimately allowing consumers to make more sustainable choices at the shelf.”

The innovative hack approach delivered breakthrough tools to P&G while at the same time showing other Resource Advisor users creative ways to use Advanced Visualization to unlock their data.
