Schneider Electric Enters Exclusive Negotiations to Acquire EcoAct to Enhance Global Sustainability Consulting Capabilities

Schneider Electric, the leader in the digital transformation of energy and automation, today announced that it has entered exclusive negotiations with Atos Group to acquire European-headquartered EcoAct to expand and enhance the company’s global sustainability consulting and carbon market capabilities.

EcoAct is an international leader in climate consulting and Net Zero solutions. Founded in France in 2006, EcoAct works with clients around the world to drive decarbonization through climate change consulting and carbon offsets. The company’s climate change consulting services include net-zero strategy development, climate risk assessment, and sustainability reporting, and in recent years, the company has also expanded its carbon markets capabilities.

Upon the successful closing of the acquisition, the EcoAct team would join Schneider’s Sustainability Business division, a global consultant in energy management, energy efficiency, and decarbonization. EcoAct’s portfolio of services would complement and deepen Schneider’s Sustainability Business market-leading offers, which include climate change advisory and risk services, sustainability reporting and disclosure, renewable energy and carbon advisory, and a suite of services for energy efficiency and energy commodities management.

The complementary portfolio also encompasses a variety of digital tools and offers that further expands Schneider Electric’s current sustainability consulting capabilities - particularly in Europe. This potential acquisition also expands Schneider’s carbon markets expertise, demand for which is expected to grow significantly as corporate commitments to decarbonization continue.

“Addressing climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time, yet we also know that the solutions for companies can be complex to navigate,” said Steve Wilhite, President of the Sustainability Business. “By combining forces with EcoAct, we have an opportunity to deepen our ability to serve the growing demand by our clients for consulting that drives action and impact, across new service areas and expanded geographies.”

Schneider’s Sustainability Business originated with the acquisition of Summit Energy Services in 2011, and the division has continued to grow strongly since that time, both organically and with the acquisitions of M&C Energy, Renewable Choice Energy, and Zeigo. Today, the business is one of the world’s largest sustainability advisors, serving more than 2,700 corporate clients across six continents, with operations in over 100 countries. Earlier this year, it announced the expansion of the Zeigo™ portfolio of digital offers, with the launch of Zeigo Activate, a software-as-a-service tool to accelerate decarbonization for small-to-medium enterprises.

Schneider Electric itself is also recognized as one of the world’s most sustainable corporations, earning a coveted “A” score on CDP’s climate questionnaire for 12 consecutive years, and earning the top spot in the Corporate Knights annual rankings of sustainable companies in 2021. The company is committed to a net-zero value chain by 2050 and to driving 800 million metric tons of carbon emissions saved or avoided through its solutions for customers by 2025. The company was recently honored as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential Companies for 2023.

The potential transaction is expected to close in H2 2023.
