Schneider Electric Supports Major Pharmaceutical VPPA Milestone

Schneider Electric has played an advisory role in advancing a major sustainability milestone for Sandoz, a global leader in generics and biosimilars, facilitating its first virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with Elawan Energy. This landmark agreement supports the development of three new solar photovoltaic projects in Tordesillas, Valladolid, Spain, and marks a significant step toward the company’s long-term decarbonization goals.

Once operational, the solar projects are expected to generate approximately 300 GWh of renewable electricity annually. The environmental impact is significant, equivalent to avoiding over 41,000 metric tons of CO emissions each year using 2024 data¹. That’s like taking more than 9,000 cars off the road, saving 4.6 million gallons of gasoline, or powering over 5,000 homes annually.

“We’re proud to have partnered with Sandoz on this important step in their energy transition,” said Fabien Chene, Head of Sustainability Business Europe at Schneider Electric. “This project exemplifies the power of collaboration in the renewable energy industry.

The success of this VPPA highlights the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving ambitious climate goals. For Schneider Electric, it’s a testament to the value of providing expert guidance and customized solutions that help organizations navigate complex energy markets and accelerate their sustainability efforts.

As the solar projects move toward commercial operation in January 2027, the impact of this agreement will continue to grow—both in terms of emissions reductions and in setting a precedent for future renewable energy initiatives
