North Carolina School District Improves Resilience with ESPC

As a small district on the coast of North Carolina, Brunswick County Schools' (BCS) buildings are prone to unpredictable flooding and devastating infrastructure damage. The district was unable to afford necessary mechanical and weatherization improvements and was in the process of applying for a loan. Then, Schneider Electric stepped in as the district's partner on a far-reaching Energy Savings Performance Contract.

Schneider Electric installed efficient LED lighting and modern energy management systems, which enabled BCS to reduce energy use and create energy savings to reinvest back into resilience upgrades. The district added modern HVAC systems and building envelope improvements that can stand up to the humid sea air, which both increased resilience and provided students with a more comfortable learning environment.

To further strengthen the district’s ability to withstand natural disasters and equipment failures, Schneider Electric delivered two innovative containerized data centers through its SE Secure Power Division. These prefabricated units are designed to support the entirety of BCS’s IT operations, featuring critical components such as IT server racks, uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems, and backup generators. These advanced elements provide robust protection for the school district’s digital infrastructure, ensuring operational resilience even in the face of unforeseen challenges.
